About Us

History of The Debutante

Cotillion was introduced to the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter in 1964 by Soror Grace Soloman and for 40 years has been our major fundraiser. Proceeds currently go to scholarships, UNCF, Black Women in Prison, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Afro-American Cultural Center, Habitat for Humanity, the YWCA, and the Teen Health Connection just to name a few.

In the fall of 1964, the members of the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority accepted as their Local Service Project an activity of the cultural enrichment of our senior high school youth. As a result of our efforts, the idea of the Spring Cotillion was envisioned.

Our aims were to stimulate and inspire our youth to uphold the lofty ideals of womanhood and to develop and practive acceptable ways of social behavior.

The response from the youth of our community has inspired the Sorority to look forward to the project as an annual affair.

We have attempted through various events to set the framework of high cultural standards for which our Debutantes are aspiring. Being a Debutante is a glorious and exciting experience. We hope that this memorable occasion will help the young people to continue to aspire to the finer things of life.

The members of the Charlotte Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority appreciate your encouragement and support.
